Papatamus by Robert D. Rusch Alexander McCabe I'd Prefer Review #102 Fresh Picks for Spring Listening

ALEXANDER McCABE [as] has put together an interesting release, titled I'D PREFER [Wamco 0325]. This has three things going for it: the leader's writing and playing, throughout the eight originals; the vocals of McCabe, who sings in a flat narrative similar to Abbey Lincoln's; and the presence of George Coleman. Although Coleman has been rather silent over the past decade, he is still capable of doing what he has been doing for the past 60 years. I enjoyed the disc and found it notable... this is a notable and fine recording. Should this get the attention it deserves, it will be a classic!
